Sherry's Bio
Sherry Brier is co-owner/director of Inner Rhythm Movement Arts Institute in Marin County, California. She spends her days dancing, teaching, choreographing dances for her students and two dance companies, writing, and playing hooky with her husband and cat. Frequent journeys to exotic lands and ancient
cultures inspire her writing and choreographies.
With a B.S. in Creative Arts Education, she has taught Egyptian Temple
Dance, improvisatioal movement, ritual and trance dance, and various ethnic
forms. She was the originator of Ethnic Express a successful program
of
world dance fusion. Her main focus for the past twenty years is
Oriental “bellydance” and Middle Eastern folkloric dance. She
studied
in Egypt, Morocco, Turkey and with the most respected instructors in
the U.S.and Europe.
Sherry directs the two Inner Rhythm resident dance companies: Troupe
Ala Nar and The Rising Stars. She also directed the highly successful
Mystic East Dancers. Sherry performs solo and with her companies at many Bay Area dance
concerts, festivals and cabarets.
Sherry produced “Arabian Nights Live Middle Eastern Music and Dance
Gala” on a monthly basis from 1994 to 1996, and “Gathering of the
Tribes” concert from 1997 to 2003. “Club Oasis: Bellydance
Extravaganza” is her current twice yearly concert production since
2004. “Visions & Veils: Student Bellydance Showcase” is an annual
concert in its 18th year.
Sherry received the 1996 Achievement Award for outstanding
contributions to the Bellydance community from Magana Baptiste
International Bellydance Festival and Contest where she was also a
judge. She served on the original board of directors of Connecting
Through Dance which brings dance performances to shut-ins, and teaches
the blind to dance.
